Source of Identity
When most people think of me, they not only think of just me, Sarah, but also think of my sister Megan. I'm commonly referred to as "one of the twins." Growing up with a twin sister has made me realize the importance independence and finding your own identity. Although many people do still refer to my sister Megan and I as "the Troys," my mom always made sure to never call us just "the twins." She always encouraged us to be different and even signed us up for different sports and activities when we were younger so that Megan and I could develop our own likes and dislikes and not have to be with one another for every single second of the day.
Surprisingly, I have never minded being just "one of the twins." This is partly because Megan and I get along so well. Although we fight just as all sisters do, we are really close--best friends even. Also, Megan and I are aware of our similarities and differences. Since we have grown up in the same environment, we share most of the same beliefs when it comes to religion, morals, and life values. However, we have different interests when it comes to school subjects and our personalities are definitely different. I am proud to say that we are very different individuals.
I am who I am today because of my family. Not only Megan, but also my younger sister and my parents have shaped me into the person that I am today. My parents have influenced my values, religious beliefs, and interests. My younger sister inspires me to be a good role model. My mom and my two sisters are like friends to me rather than simply the people I share my home with. I know that my family is always there for me. Because of them, I am who I am today.
